Namaste: What exactly am I saying?
Namaste, as many of you will know, is often something said at the end of a yoga class. But do you know what it means? Namaste is a respectful Hindu greeting which is typically combined with a couple of gestures, hands pressed together in what looks like prayer formation at the center of the chest along with a small bow and a small bow. The hands being in the center of the chest symbolizes the heart chakra.
In Hinduism the greeting means “I bow to the divine in you.” This particular greeting should ideally be used at both the beginning and the end of a yoga practice but is often saved as a closing gesture to the class. In yoga there is a mantra that accompanies Namaste.
So now you know! Go out there and honor some souls!
